I don’t like to think that my so-called story is any different from the majority of artists and people in general who spend their lives chasing bliss and contentment. To find the source of the small moments in life that seem to halt and engulf your spirit seems, to me at least, to be the drive of human existence.
“The Happy Ep” is a collection of songs written to express myself the way I wanted to. I’ve always hated when bands stick to one genre to get more publicity because it limits their creativity. I don’t make music for people to like, I make it cause it makes me feel like I have a voice. If people like the songs then cool, and If they don’t then cool.

Questions of identity, being transgender, being different. What does it take to get to the other side? What does it take to survive? It takes more than a sex hormone.
I basically just make music as a way to express something that’s not really that easy to say. I record and produce everything myself as well, so it’s a pretty personal thing for me. Expression is the key: If I don’t have anything I feel I need to say, I usually don’t have a song to write.
I’ve jumped around from thing to thing for as long as I can remember. I grew up waterskiing competitively, then gave it up to move across the country to major in theater, and pursued music journalism. All that time I was writing music and sharing it with no one aside from a few close friends. It was a hobby, a flight, a fancy; something to do on flights, car rides, or while waiting for an appointment. Writing has always been an integral part of my being and music, in my experience, is a transcendent mechanism. So I finally shared my music with more than just a few close friends.
There is no other band that we know of, which sounds like JUST LIKE HONEY. Maybe that is because we never play cover versions of other people’s songs. We recently noticed that also Joy Division never played any cover versions. We love this thought.

The song Too Late off our recently released EP Smoke Signals, which to the naked ear sounds like a love song about two people who are realizing they may be near the end of their relationship is, in fact, an analogy of a story that happened to myself and a friend of mine while backpacking across Europe.
As a singer-songwriter for me, each song is a mini-adventure in self-expression. Typically spanning just a few days from inception to release into the world. That is the reality of it, so my approach is to honor that, and especially resist the temptation to contrive into something artificially grand, or to morph into some sort of a product aimed at securing commercial return.
I like garage rock because it’s all about DIY, which is perfect for me because I’m cheap and lazy. That’s why I started the band Picking Out Islands back in November last year.
I’m 25 years old, living in Central New York. I often think about taking a one-way ticket to the West Coast, specifically like Los Angeles, or Seattle. I have been working on putting out what I believe is the best I can do with what I have. I’ve recorded hundreds of songs, I have written over 790 poems. I do what I do because I love art. Music is awesome. I’m not attempting to re-invent the wheel. I don’t want to sound the same. I’m not looking to fit into standards.
