Black Rain – Three grumpy men from the North East of England. We are excited to share our debut album with the world. We’ve poured our hearts and souls into creating something that truly reflects who we are. We’ve always felt like we exist in a unique space – “Too Goth to be Punk. Too Punk to be Goth.” – a phrase from a review of one of our early gigs, and we felt it captured what we are about far more concisely than we have ever managed to.

We’ve come to embrace the idea that we don’t fit in to one particular musical pigeon hole and in fact it’s something we wear with pride. A sonic storm of raw energy, brooding atmosphere, and razor-sharp intensity. The music blends the cold, jagged edges of classic post-punk with a modern a unrelenting drive and dark overtures. You’ll find haunting melodies, pounding rhythms, and a relentless emotional pull that we hope you won’t be able to ignore.

The songs in “Notes From Planet Earth” include Indie Folk, Rock, and Country styles. They deal with the disastrous direction our world seems to be taking driven by the likes of Trump and the GOP, and their kind worldwide. The songs are grounded in the understanding that without a major change of course, we’re in the process of degrading and destroying the world we live in rather than passing it on to the future in good shape. I hope these songs touch some hearts and that we pull off that change of course successfully.

My name is Jeannie Constance Guerrilla, and I am writing this from the basement of a sort of safe house, I suppose you’d call it, in a sleepy and disintegrating Australian town. The heater here doesn’t work very well. It’s unbearably loud. A few minutes after turning it on, it heats the metal of the grille to the point that it resonates at the same frequency as the spinning fan inside, and the whole thing rattles like a milk truck. Sometimes switching the fan between its two speeds quiets it down a bit, but it seems to have found an equilibrium of density. Now it rattles no matter what I do.

As he went about his day, he said that the question was always there, in the back of his mind, a distant orbit. Eventually, he returned to the machine, to try and understand why it had asked him that question.

Satyr Syndicate Records is my project to re-record and master much of the music I have written. On the website, I play the part of Hermes, the messenger god. Hermes gives updates on how the excavations are going. Sometimes, there is drama with the bands. For example, there was a socialist funk band, called Smashpattern, who only put out a single EP, and then tragically disappeared into the jungles fighting for liberation. Satyr Syndicate is the group of satyrs who write, record and perform the songs. They represent various moods or genres. There is also the imagery of excavation and of Hades. Since I am re-recording, I am excavating stuff that was done long ago, like an archeological dig. Hades represents the other-world or sub-conscious, from which the music comes. Gravedigging in reverse.
