My life in music, and Fluorite / Caldera by Seth Gibbs
Music is one of the few constants in my life.

I’ve been interested in a lot of different subjects and have tried to learn numerous skills over time — digital art, programming, web design, (briefly) robotics, among others — but most I either eventually decided weren’t for me, or I have a very on & off relationship with, being deeply interested and practicing it for months, and then spending the next year completely forgetting about it.

But everything about music — the production of it, how instruments are made, the history of music and its influences on cultures — that is the one thing I have always been fascinated by. I loved finding new music and wanted so badly to either play an instrument or even somehow make new music myself.

My name is Danny M. Cohen, and I’m one half of the Chicago-based gay folk-rock duo They Won’t Win. My “music husband” is Greg Lanier and we wrote and co-produced our debut album over a few years of life’s ups and downs. For me, parts of ‘Lost At Sea’ reflect what it was like to witness a dear friend fall into a dark, frightening place, but, ultimately, our album is about finding your way out.

The Remedies

Our Artist of the Week #17, The Remedies, is an alternative rock outfit from Chicago, Illinois comprised of guitarist and lead vocalist, Marco Obaya, bass player and backing vocalist, Jake Schnoebelen, and drummer and percussionist, Angelo Santoyo. Jake and Marco were childhood friends, while Marco and Angelo were acquaintances in high school. Marco and Angelo’s first musical encounter came in early 2014 when Marco was offered a position playing bass in The Damosellas, a punk rock band fronted by a mutual friend of theirs. He took the gig and the two quickly bonded over grunge music, coffee and cigarettes.
