Let’s support real Hip-Hop again…
“Everything led to this…” & rightfully so! It is a beautiful thing where you look and realize the growth that has been made.

With the passing of legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin and the 60th birthday of Madonna occurring within days of each other this week I started to think about the enduring legacy of certain women in the music biz and how they got to where they are today. I also started to think about the mentors that have helped me on my journey. Here are seven female performers who have influenced my work and the stage of life I was in when they found me and first sang their song to me.
My brothers and I started out deejaying and producing as Chalice Palace Music in the late 90s, still Teenagers. Most of our productions were with local upcoming talents from our hood. At that time, we never had a distribution deal, so most of the work was unreleased until 2004 we released a few 45s. But we still had a long, long way to go until to receive recognition.

A hot new young talented artist with a real gift for words and expressing ideas through written works is exactly what the game has been missing, the missing link to some of the middle-class black community that has been left out of the scene in hip-hop.
