If there was one song that I’ve written that sums up my whole life perfectly it is “As strange as fiction.” I’m sorry to admit that I’ve burned some bridges in life, especially when I was younger. And to be honest, this has probably been a factor that has held me back in music. I hope I have learned from this.

An indie folk band might be considered an unlikely outfit for a classically trained pianist (me), and an Oceanography graduate (Simon Thomas), to end up in. However, these things can happen in unusual ways, like with Sandtimer.
As a singer-songwriter for me, each song is a mini-adventure in self-expression. Typically spanning just a few days from inception to release into the world. That is the reality of it, so my approach is to honor that, and especially resist the temptation to contrive into something artificially grand, or to morph into some sort of a product aimed at securing commercial return.
My band November Bees‘ first record, “In a Dissonant Light”, is full of metaphors. How should I best describe the sound of the album? Industrial Folk Music? Are three words enough?
