We are a Brazilian band that emerged in the 90s, more precisely in 1994: Old Magic Pallas. Oh gosh, 30 years! Time flies… We met in a CD store that belonged to our drummer, where we always met to listen to the releases of the bands we liked, mainly British alternative rock. In fact, our band’s name comes from the liner notes of Blur’s Parklife album (it was the name of one of those racing dogs).
At that time, few bands played this style of music in the country, and even fewer sang in English.
This was even the motto for a documentary called “Guitar Days – An Unlikely Story of Brazilian Music,” which details the independent scene of that time and where we are mentioned.

There was greater attention to Brazilian rock sung in Portuguese, so it was not a favorable scenario for us; we would have to swim against the current. Even so, we achieved some visibility, thanks to a video of ours, produced in a completely independent way, which was broadcast on MTV Brasil. It was the music video for the song Stargazer, which is on our first EP, Pull My Daisy.
This gave us some hope that things were changing, several bands appeared with a similar style and also singing in English, some are still active. But it didn’t stay that way for long: at the end of the 90s, the market once again strongly favored bands that sang in Portuguese, there were few places that opened their doors to us and, after a while, we couldn’t resist: we closed our activities in 2000, but we maintained contact between the members.
With the boom of the internet and MP3, our music continued to circulate among independent alternative music listeners, circulating on Last.FM and MySpace. With that, we briefly returned to the stage in 2008 and 2009.
The world has turned around, and nowadays, we feel that people still want to hear music of this style, noisy but melodic and soft. Several bands like Slowdive and Ride are acclaimed at festivals worldwide, including here in Brazil, where they come to play some shows.
Therefore, we are using social media and streaming services to leave this record of an era that was revered and continues to be. The free spirit, which doesn’t yield to the demands of the market, genuine feeling, and artistic authenticity still perpetuate. And we will continue to believe that.
