Into Overdrive

Def Robot going Into Overdrive

Def Robot was formed in 2019 when David Hancox and I, Paul Taylor, reconnected after 20 years.

I was the singer and David was the bassist in 90’s Manchester U.K. grunge/rock/indie band Kerosene, who were signed to Dead Dead Good and then Sire records. We released an album “Arrythmia” along with various singles and toured the U.K., Europe and the USA supporting such bands as Green Day, The Flaming Lips, and Terrorvision amongst others.

Kerosene lasted until 1995 after which we went separate ways. We collaborated in various other bands over the next few years, before I relocated to Kendal and David moved to Berlin.

Kerosene got back together in 2018 to re-record and release the 2nd album plus more new material. We also embarked upon Def Robot as a side project, embracing many different musical genres including Alternative Rock, Post-punk, Electronic, Indie, Noise Rock and more.

It was from this point that Def Robot went into overdrive. Writing, recording and releasing albums every few months with various guests, over 17 albums and many EPs up to 2023. The power of the internet meant that we could collaborate with other musicians in various countries! Number 18 is still being concocted, but is expected to be released in the summer of 2023.

The logistics of David living in Berlin, Germany, and me in Kendal, England, meant that playing live was close to impossible! So I recruited a live band to play in the U.K. That way, Def Robot have played numerous gigs over the last few years, with COVID intervening for large parts of that time. We continue to rehearse and plan to resume gigs in 2023.
