Finding a New Beginning in the Silence of a Good Goodbye

AEUNA - Light

Writing Light felt like a silent eye opener for me. The kind that doesn’t announce itself but lands softly. It came right before I was about to fully jump into a new beginning, letting go. Not a dramatic revelation. Just a quiet, honest look at what I was leaving behind, and what I was choosing to carry forward.

I’m AEUNA (pronounced ay-yu-nuh), an independent singer-songwriter and producer from Cebu, Philippines. On April 24, I’m releasing my new single, Light.

Listen to the song while reading the text.

The title has multiple, intentional meanings. Light as in packing light, carrying only what matters. Light as in the brighter side of leaving. Light as in minimalism. Light as in finally seeing clearly. One word, four layers. That’s kind of how it felt as well when I wanted to write this.

The song started from a question I couldn’t stop turning over: what do you do with a love that didn’t go wrong? There’s no villain in this story. No betrayal. Just two people who were good for each other, and then matured enough to let go. That’s a specific kind of heartbreak nobody really warns you about. It doesn’t come with anger to lean on. Just gratitude, and grief, sitting right next to each other.

The lyrics move between English and Bisaya, my mother tongue from the Visayas region of the Philippines. For me, Bisaya is the language I reach for when it has it’s own layers of vulnerability. The song’s most unguarded moments live there.

The cover art is a hand-drawn crosshatch sketch of an open suitcase, packed light, with a backpack beside it. It’s the image before the leaving. It’s also after the decision. That’s where the song lives too.

I hope it finds you in whatever quiet you’re sitting in right now.
