Deva Mahal steps into the spotlight with her debut Run Deep

Today in a week, on March 23, New York R&B singer Deva Mahal will release her debut album on Motéma Music. You best describe Deva’s music as infectious, pulse-pounding soul with a decidedly modern edge.

Deva Mahal – A star is born

A rare combination of masterful songwriting and breathtaking vocal talent, Deva Mahal steps into the spotlight with her debut album Run Deep. The daughter of well known Blues musician Taj Mahal takes her inspiration from the idea of strength through vulnerability. With pure honesty, she connects with her audience. She sings emotionally searing songs of love and loss, about the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity, drawing on a deep well of personal experience.

In her debut, Deva shows a very vibrant personality and explores the grounds of R&B and Soul music. While her character and voice hold the album together, the individual songs are very different. Sometimes groovy or stomping, occasionally profound and balladic. But every song is powerful and strong and could stand for itself as a single release.
