We are Sqwerv, a Denver-based four-piece band that loves improvising and jamming. Our latest project is a departure from our previous works – the new EP “Hors D’oeuvres Part 1” is the first of a three-part project. For a while, we referred to it as the “psych album,” but we went with “Hors D’oeuvres” as it’s just a taste of what we have coming out this year.
We are very much committed to artistic exploration and boundary-pushing; our close friends who have heard snippets of the songs are surprised it’s the same band. We love that.

Recorded entirely within the confines of our at-home rehearsal space, “Hors d’Oeuvres Part 1” marks a significant milestone for us as our first independently produced release. We found this method to be the best way to capture organic, live moments during the studio sessions, resulting in a collection of tracks that exude intimacy and authenticity.
There really is nothing quite like recording in the comfort of your own home. This is the space we all live in, and our living room is where we practice and jam multiple times a week. We know how the room sounds very intimately, so the music flowed very naturally in this environment. Also, we could make any changes we wanted without the pressure of high studio costs in the back of our minds.
The whole album took about three months to record and produce. We’ve had some of these song ideas for much longer. Jack took it upon himself to mix and master this one, and he did a fantastic job. We couldn’t be happier with how it sounds. All that being said, it’s challenging not having an extra person to help out in the recording process, as it can be cumbersome and time-consuming when trying to be the engineers and the artists.
Our passion for what we do comes from a love of music that dates back to our childhood. We’ve all been enthralled with music for our whole lives, but we didn’t all play until our later years. Jack has probably been playing the longest; he started playing keys and guitar in his younger days. Our biggest influences collectively included Phish, Pink Floyd, Khruangbin, Frank Zappa, Tame Impala, Grateful Dead, and many more.
