Wep One

Wep One

Wep One, our 24th Artist of the Week, is an American Hip Hop artist and producer residing in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. Combining elements of Rap, Hip Hop, Metal and Electronica, he writes intense music that resonates in the spaces between genres, rather than strictly adhering to them. The results are heavy sonic playgrounds where his aggressive vocals can thrive.

With delivery that resembles the poetic gruff and gravitas of artists like Aesop Rock, Vinnie Paz and Run The Jewels, along with the diverse sampling and beat-centric production of DJ Shadow and RJD2, Wep tends to connect with the listener on a personal level, often writing about common human emotions, experiences, and generally just being human, while behind him a wall of heavy handed, orchestrated chaos and melodic rhythm lay the foundation.

With a nostalgic nod to sample based Hip Hop of the 90’s and early 2000’s, and a healthy dose of synths, guitars and low end grit, Wep One’s music is as dynamic and adventurous as it is just plain heavy and uncompromising, striking a chord with the listener as he raps about things we can all see and feel, within ourselves and the world around us. You can hear influences as diverse as Wu-Tang, Cypress Hill, 2PAC, Nas, Biggie, Aesop Rock, Jay-Z, The Roots, Gang Starr, Tricky, PJ Harvey, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Lamb of God, Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin.
